The 'Pies
The Tucson Magpies were
founded in 1980 by three
standouts from the University
of Arizona, Dave Sitton, Rick
Rendon and Rich Rectanus.
In the Magpies history they
have developed a strong tradition of winning, as it
took titles in the Warren Lee Sevens in 1983 and
1984 and the Kachina Sevens in 1984. Playing in
the Arizona Rugby Union, the Magpies have won
the league championship in 1989, 2003 and tied in
1988, sharing it with the Tempe Old Devils.
The Magpies also won the Western Division
Michelob Rugby Classic title in 1993. As hard hitting
and aggressive as the Magpies are they have also
been gentlemen. In 1989 and 1992 and 1993 they
were recognized for this by winning the Craig
Sweeny Memorial Trophy, awarded to the club that
        demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, team
spirit and pride in the game of Rugby.

        The City
The lifestyles that define Tucson also provide a
wealth of activities and attractions. A lush desert,
ruggedly handsome mountains, gently rolling hills
and clear blue skies create unmatched natural
beauty. Tucson is a fast-growing metropolitan area
of more than 725,000 people and an exciting blend
of contrasts: a modern city of arts, fine culture and
        world-class entertainment, enhanced by the
influence of centuries of human habitation and
        breathtaking, accessible natural wonders. Tucson
enjoys more sunshine than any other city in the
United States, about 350 days each year. Winter
temperatures are mild, while summers allow for
rugby at any hour of the day or evening. Two rainy
seasons replenish the desert landscape. Low
humidity complements sunny living for most of the
year by making warm temperatures feel cooler.

        The Game Pitch
The Magpies call Estevan Rugby Pitch home.
The field is one of the nicest in the state equipped
with stands for the hoards of Magpie fans or
"Maggies" attending games. Estevan Rugby Pitch
is located on the Southwest corner of Speedway
Blvd. and Main Ave. (Click for directions) All home
matches usually begin at 1:00pm. For more
information on attending Magpie matches or
playing the 'Pies please drop us a line.

        The Tucson Rugby Bus
The Magpies are the first club in the Arizona Rugby
Union to have their own team bus. The "Tucson
Rugby Bus" is the Magpies means of
transportation to and from the pitch for away
matches and tournaments. The bus is also used
for team night outs to promote a safe party
atmosphere. Trips on the bus are an incredible
time. Win or lose the Pies always have a good time
        on the ride home!
