Monthly Update – August 2017

Tucson Rugby has had a great summer thus far!

With the conclusion of our Roosters Youth Camp, we had well over 30 kids join us for our 7 week Summer Camp!  Ages 6-14 were present, and everyone had a great time.  Thanks to all of our coaches and parents!  In particular we’d like to thank Head coach Jeremy Fonoimoana and his family for making the camp possible!

Also at the camp, we had a food drive for the kids!  In all 214 pounds of food were collected and delivered to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

Two of our Blackbirds, Jordan Ruiz (Fullback) and Harlie Muniz (Prop), were honored on Florugby’s High School Hot List!  Also, the Blackbird’s Flyhalf, Brody Wainwright was offered a chance to attend Rookie Camp for University of Arizona Rugby.  Hopefully he can survive a few days of grueling running.  Finally, Jordan was also offered a chance to train with an Atavaus Rugby training camp.  We’re very proud of all of our high school men and their Head Coach Tim Pappas!

The Magpies are about to begin training for their 2017-2018 campaign in October, but before doing that, they’ll be doing 3 months of Strength and Conditioning at Wildcat Crossfit on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7pm and Saturdays from 11am to noon.

Along with that, we’ve got several other Gyms have been hosting Magpies throughout the Tucson Area:

Rise Sports Performance

Fealty Fitness

Gym 244

Finally, as the front banner states, we’re having our yearly Magpies Golf Tournament on the 19th!  If you’d like to take part please contact our Events coordinator, Cameron Hall!  If you would like to sponsor, volunteer, or just come out to play, we’ve got spots for everyone!

Also, to close out the summer, we are continuing to play Touch at Estevan Park Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to dark.

If you have any questions on how to get involved!  Shoot me an emaiil from the Contact us page, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible

Thanks all!
